PROJECT.3 THE FINAL WORKS

The gallery is for a artist named Andy Gilmore, who working on interessting geometry arts, so , the gallery's shape and many aspects, like the plan arrangement, the detail apperances are reponsing to the geometry art works he did.

I found there are four main key elements of the newtown site

when i was doing the site analysis: the park, the backstreet on the back site of the site, the car park, and the king street. The most important of all is the king street, which is very busy, a lots of people and lots of interesting stores selling interesting good, but the pathway is too narrow, and the people are forced to move on instead of standing in front of a store window and looking at the goods carefully. And the park behind site gives a totally different feeling from the kingstreet, it is so peaceful, quiet and relax.A 10 square meter office is placed on the ground floor, just close to the mian entrance of the gallery.The workshop of the artist is exposed to the kingstreet, in case to attract passing by people.There are two kitchens in the gallery, one is connected to the workshop by a staircase, so if the artist feel hungry when working, he can get food easily. The other kitchen is in the appartment for daily requirement.

Project3 the second proposal

The second proposal for the project3 is much closed to the final one, i aleady set a central courtyard as the focus of the building arrangement, and the courtyard regarded as the mian character of the building, and also the way of catching natural light, and i already made the glass curtain wall for the main facade of the building so the peoplr walking on the street can see the arts works displaying in the gallery and the artist working in his workshop, that is the way i plan to attract people.

My tutor pointed out that, i should increse the couryard space by reducing the stairs i put in it, and gather the transportations to one spot, and there should be a eaiser way for people to see the art works and working artist in the gallery, also the shape of the building should not be too borning. And i should focus on details, like making the huge wall that enclose the courtyard more interesting.

The idea of the first proposal is to put a tree in the blue glass box showing in the model so that it

can be regarded as the foucs of the whole building arrangement, and it could be seen as "introduce the park into this building".

And a public plaza which open to the public has been created in the front of the building by the curving floors. And the first floor designed as a corridor which connecting the king street and the park, my tutor's told me that the building arrangement of this proposal is still random, not having a focus, and to bring the park in using the method of puting a tree in a glass box is so not natural, and also the public plaza in the front is so not responsing the street view, it is so not like the street.
